What are the best tiles Brands in Spain?

If you are in the middle of building your house or reform and you have to decide which tiles to use, surely you have asked yourself this same question. And is that unlike other sectors such as vehicles, insurance, food ... among others, the ceramic industry invests very little in advertising campaigns, with the consequence that when we find in the market some tiles at 15 €/m2 next to other apparently similar, at 30 €/m2 , often the consumer is puzzled by not knowing well what may be the real differences between one and the other.

These price differences between brands are due to the fact that, as in many other sectors, there are also many tile manufacturers (some 123 factories in the province of Castellón according to data from Ascer) so we can also find different ranges of products, from the most luxurious and innovative to the most simple and traditional.

Why do we find tiles at 3€ and at 30€?

Although this seems to have a logical answer, it is a fairly common question that consumers ask us, and is that obviously the price is influenced by the brand image, but in turn, although at first glance they seem similar, they will hardly have anything in common. In addition to the design and format, we must take into account the quality of the product, which will be influenced in a very important way by the quality and quantity of glaze used, the quality of the base of the piece or sponge cake, as well as its temperature and baking time. All this takes a delicate production process (you can see here a post dedicated to it) that companies must take care of in detail, since the slightest failure can ruin a whole batch of thousands of m2 .

On the other hand, you have surely heard on some occasion that "the 2nd quality of this firm is much better than the 1st quality of this firm"; and this, although it is difficult to believe, is very true. In the almost 20 years that I have been in the sector, I have been able to confirm this by being able to calmly offer our customers 2nd quality materials without any fear and knowing that they would be happy despite their fears of a 2nd quality.  And when we talk about 1st and 2nd qualities, here each company sticks more or less to their classification criteria, although I must emphasize that since the crisis began, there have been companies that have opened their hands a little with the 2nd, being able to find some other major flaw in the product (you can see here the post in which we talked about 2nd qualities).

That said, if I were to ask you now for the name of 5 tile companies, could you name up to 5? Probably hardly, since apart from Porcelanosa, which is the one who invests more in advertising and marketing, the rest may be more or less known within the professional field but very little in the face of the final consumer.

So, which are the best tile brands?  

A complicated question to answer since, as I said before, there are 123 factories in the province of Castellón alone; so among the ones I know and based on my personal experience and that of our customers, if I had to make a small classification, it would be as follows. Although I would love you to participate and give me your opinions and experiences, because obviously, it is a very personal classification and surely you may have some other favorite.

1. Let's start with the best known, Porcelanosa, which we could also consider as the most top or exclusive at the moment. As for its price range, it may be one of the most expensive, but it is synonymous with high quality, careful designs and perfect finishes. Today it could be considered the best tile manufacturer in terms of quality and design.

      2.   On the other hand, there is Peronda, with a more affordable price range, although it also has a high degree of design and quality. Peronda is one of my favorites since it has a modern and current modeling, with a line of large format pieces and more minimalist style while another range is more vintage and small format. In addition, it has the collaboration of design studios for the creation of its most special collections. In terms of advertising and marketing, they have participated in collaborations with the fashion world, sponsorship of designers ... but in my opinion they have focused too much on architects, designers and professionals ... leaving a little aside the final consumer, so I think that, perhaps this would be one of the points that would be missing in their marketing campaigns.

    3.   Pamesa, surely if you were a basketball fan you will remember it for its "Pamesa Basket" years, or now for soccer with Villarreal CF, since it is a firm that has always been closely linked to sport. As for the quality of its products, it is a company that generates confidence in this regard and covers various ranges in terms of prices and finishes. In its catalog we can find a wide variety of styles in both large and small formats, making it a brand to be taken into account when thinking about our tiling. As for its promotion, Pamesa has a long history of involvement in sports, being closely related today to Villarreal CF. I would also highlight its collaboration for many years now, with the designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, with a very fun and colorful ceramic collections, such as the CUORE series, which I love!

    4. Cristal Cerámicas , is one of the companies "of all life" that stands out for its good value for money. It is a more classic product range and standard formats with a good result in terms of the quality of its glazes and biscuits. As for its price range is usually quite affordable, with the assurance of buying a good product at a good price.

   5. Magnifica is one of the most beautiful marble manfacturer in Castellon.This spanish company creates tiles which are available in very large formats that can be installed on walls or floors.
